Kroc School Achieves 100 Percent Participation in Employee Giving Campaign for the Second Year in a Row

Friday, May 10, 2019

Rachel Christensen, Assistant Director of the Center for Peace and Commerce, receives congratulations from USD Mascot Diego for her participation in the Students First! employee giving campaign.

The University of San Diego wrapped its month-long employee giving campaign on May 3, 2019. The theme of the campaign — Students First! – is significant in that, for most employees, supporting students is integral to their roles and a motivating reason for why they work at USD.

The campaign occurs annually and gives all members of the campus community the opportunity to support areas of the university that they care about most, such as student scholarships, programs, classroom equipment, and improvements to the campus. It is designed to raise awareness throughout the campus community about the importance of private support and the feeling of satisfaction that accompanies it.

With a goal of 80 percent participation university-wide, Kroc School employees surpassed the goal, achieving 100 percent participation with all 32 employees making a gift. This is the second year in a row the Kroc School has had 100 percent participation in the campaign.

"Giving is my way of showing support to the University's efforts toward diversity and inclusion. Giving is also my way of showing gratitude — a way of paying it forward for the scholarship I received when attending the Kroc School. Without it, I would have been hard pressed to complete the program,” said Tina Medina, Program Officer with the Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice and Master’s in Peace and Justice alumna ‘13.

In a survey related to the campaign that asked employees why employees give to USD, the top three reasons among respondents were:

  1. “By making a gift, I can support my passion. I choose to give to something at USD that inspires me.
  2. "Collective giving makes a huge difference. Every gift, no matter the size, makes an impact!"
  3. "By giving to USD, I am directly supporting the University’s mission.

Kroc School employees understand firsthand the positive impact a scholarship can make on improving access for a future peacemaker or social innovator, empowering them to develop essential knowledge, skills and experience to change the world.

Please join the employees of the Kroc School and make a gift today. Best of all, it’s easy to do — make your gift with a credit card or mail in a check. Your gift is 100 percent tax-deductible.

Kroc School Associate Dean Necla Tschirgi receives a surprise visit from Diego Torero as a thank-you for her participation in the Students First! employee giving campaign.
