Four Law Students Awarded Scholarships by the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Foundation

SAN DIEGO (November 2, 2021) - Four University of San Diego (USD) School of Law students–Adrielli Ferrer (3L), Janine Parchment (2L), Alexander Kat (3L), and Erica Skerven (3L)–were recently awarded scholarships by the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Foundation. The scholarships recognized students for their demonstration of academic excellence and commitment to community and public service.

All four students are active members of the USD School of Law community. Ferrer is the current president of the Black Law Students Association (BLSA) as well as a member of the La Raza Law Student Association. Parchment has served as the First Year Student Representative of the BLSA and is a member of the Women's Law Caucus, and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of the Student Bar Association. Kat is the President of both the La Raza Law Student Association and the Employment and Labor Law society. Skerven has served on the editorial board for the San Diego Law Review.

The Earl B. Gilliam Bar Foundation is a charitable organization whose mission is to represent the interests of the African-American legal community in San Diego County. The organization's name honors the first African American man to serve on San Diego's bench, The Honorable Earl B. Gilliam.
