Legal Clinics—Technology is Extending the Reach of Free Legal Services

Legal Clinics TechnologyLegal Clinics Technology

SAN DIEGO (September 21, 2021) – The clinics’ foresight and the generous support of USD School of Law alumni united to enhance the technological resources which enabled the clinics to stay connected to students, reach out to clients and work as a team remotely throughout the global pandemic.  Building on the success made possible by increased technology, alumni donors moved quickly to underwrite laptop computers, mobile scanners, webcams, and a text messaging platform—extending the mobile outreach of student interns allowing them to provide excellent legal representation to indigent clients throughout San Diego County—just in time for the start of a new academic year.

Classmates Kevin Ruddy ’73 (BA), ’77 (JD), and Gary Schons ’73 (BA), ’77 (JD) collaborated in their philanthropic support of the legal clinics—providing the clinics the resources that they need to extend the reach of the clinics into the community of San Diego to meet clients’ needs and provide legal representation where it is needed the most.  COVID-19 has taught us all that remote technology is an essential part of meeting with clients, conducting client intactions, preparing documents, and providing sound legal representation.  Thank you, Kevin and Gary!
