SAN DIEGO (July 30, 2021) - University of San Diego (USD) School of Law alumnus Christopher Wellborn, ’88 (JD), was recently sworn in as the Second Vice President of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL), the nation’s criminal defense bar. Wellborn has been a board member for NACDL since 2010.

Wellborn is a solo practitioner in the criminal defense arena based in South Carolina. He defends people accused of crimes ranging from misdemeanors to felonies all throughout the country. In 2019, he received the Weeney Award from NACDL, which is given to an attorney who best demonstrates the goals and values of NACDL and the legal profession overall. Wellborn has also received the Champion of Justice Legal Award in 2018 and the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers’ Presidents Award in 1999.

Additionally, Wellborn helped found the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and has since served as president and a board member. He has also served as a board member for the York County Bar Association and chair of the Criminal Law Section of the South Carolina Bar Association.

Wellborn received his JD from USD School of Law in 1988 and his BA from Bates College in 1983.
