SAN DIEGO (April 9, 2021) – University of San Diego (USD) School of Law students from the newly formed Client Advocacy Team (CAT) successfully proceeded through the American Bar Association’s (ABA) National Client Counseling Competition held virtually March 18-20 to reach the semifinals. “We are incredibly proud of our students who performed so successfully and placed in the top six out of 106 teams,” said Vice Dean Margaret Dalton.  “We extend our congratulations to the entire USD team, with a special mention to Danielle Pompeo (2L) and Kyle Rudolph (2L), who finished as semifinalists.”

The national event was held virtually by the University of Oklahoma School of Law and welcomed 12 winning regional teams from across the country. Last year was the first time the USD CAT competed in the regional level of competition, making their qualification to the national event this year an exciting accomplishment. Their strong finish is also a testament to the exemplary support from team coaches Brody Burns, ’16 (JD); Virginia Nelson, ’79 (JD); Blaine Mullican (3L); and Shana Sobel (3L).

The ABA Client Counseling Competition allows students to practice the fundamental skills necessary for successful attorneys, including the ability to interview, counsel and support a client through legal matters. Click here to learn more about the event, which includes law school teams from across the country.
