USD Transactional Law Team Wins Best Overall and Best Draft Awards at UCLA Transactional Law Competition

USD School of Law Transactional Law Team

SAN DIEGO (April 7, 2021) – The University of San Diego (USD) School of Law Transactional Law Team (TLT) recently won Best Overall and Best Draft awards at the UCLA Transactional Law Competition. Congratulations to the USD competing teams of Jack Kelley (3L), Arin Nahapatian (3L) and Alejandra Salceda (2L) for winning the Best Overall award, and James Keegan (2L), Michael Tiab (3L) and Julie Voorhes (2L) for winning the Best Draft award.

The UCLA Transactional Law Competition provides law students an opportunity to practice drafting and negotiating a simulated complex business transaction, with student teams choosing to represent either the buyer or seller. This year, both USD School of Law teams represented the seller in the simulation, who was selling a privately held medical device company to a strategic buyer. Coach and Professor of Law Stephen Ferruolo, along with “non-traveling” first-year students Connor Hume and Jack Whitaker, contributed to both teams’ preparation and should also be celebrated in the overall team’s success.

In recent years, the USD TLT has performed well in the UCLA competition, bringing home the Best Draft award in 2019 and the Best Draft, Best Negotiation, and Best Overall awards in 2020.
