SAN DIEGO (March 22, 2021) – University of San Diego (USD) School of Law alumnus Liren Chen, ’08 (JD), is appointed CEO and President of InterDigital, Inc., a mobile and video research and development company. Chen will also be appointed to the InterDigital Board, serving as a director. InterDigital develops video and mobile technology that functions in devices, networks, and services worldwide.

Chen has more than 25 years in the industry, recently serving as Senior Vice President and an executive at Qualcomm, an industry leader. Chen has overseen Qualcomm’s worldwide Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio and enhanced Qualcomm’s technology driven IP strategy. Chen has successfully developed and defended IP licensing globally. Chen also has expertise as an inventor himself, being a co-inventor on more than 120 patents worldwide. Recently, Chen has been involved in licensing programs for 4G and 5G with phone manufacturers worldwide.

Chen holds a bachelor’s in Automation from Tsinghua University in Beijing, a master’s in electrical engineering from the University of Maine, an MBA from San Diego State University, and a JD from the University of San Diego.
