Kay Lynn Lee ’87 (JD) Named 2020 Winner of the Montana State Bar Neil Haight Pro Bono Award

Kay Lynn Lee

SAN DIEGO (November 10, 2020) – University of San Diego (USD) School of Law alumna Kay Lynn Lee, ‘87 (JD), has been named the 2020 winner of the Montana State Bar Neil Height Pro Bono Award. The Neil Haight award recognizes a nominee who provides outstanding legal service to Montanans living in poverty by providing pro bono services to those in need.

Upon retiring from practice in 2019, Lee kept an Emeritus license so she could continue pro bono work. Lee volunteers much of her time answering questions on the Montana Legal Services Association online advice platform, offering phone advice, and recruiting attorneys to participate in family law pro bono programs.

Lee is a longtime member of the Montana Bar’s Justice Initiatives Committee. She is a former partner at Henning, Keedy, and Lee, a firm focusing on bankruptcy, real estate, and workers’ compensation law. She began working on family law matters when she started taking on more pro bono cases after retirement.

Pro bono work is not the only way Lee keeps busy in retirement. Furthermore, it also is not the only way she contributes to equal justice in Montana. A talented painter, she has donated original artwork to the Art for Justice silent auction to benefit the Montana Justice Foundation that the State Bar has held in conjunction in conjunction with the Annual Meeting over the past several years.
