Making a Lasting Impact on Diversity in the Legal Profession

Procopio

SAN DIEGO (September 8, 2020) – Long before recent news stories focused on movements advocating racial equality, Procopio made a commitment to racial equality, diversity, equitability, and inclusion. Procopio and its Partners, Associates, Management Committee, and Racial Equality Task Force, are all dedicated to making positive efforts to increase racial diversity in the legal profession. There is a critical need to support students who have been historically underrepresented in law school and in the legal community. In furtherance of that mission, Procopio is establishing the Procopio Law Student Diversity Scholarship Fund at University of San Diego (USD) School of Law.

This newly-established scholarship fund is available immediately for 1L law student candidates who demonstrate their commitment to increasing diversity and support for Black and/or African American law students, and exhibit leadership in and for the Black community in an effort to address racial injustice and prejudice. Procopio’s Law Student Diversity Scholarship Fund will be available for candidates who have worked to better the experience of the nation’s Black and African-American communities. Preference will be given to Black and/or African American applicants. In addition to the firm’s scholarship support for first-year students, Procopio is increasing its commitment to diversity through the establishment of a 2L and 3L scholarship program in the next two years. Following Procopio Scholars’ second year of law school, students will also have the opportunity to join the San Diego office as Summer Interns, working side-by-side with associates and partners—learning the practice of law from experienced attorneys.

Thank you, Procopio! USD School of Law appreciates your generous support of diversity, equity, and inclusion for our students in San Diego.
