SAN DIEGO (July 29, 2020) – University of San Diego (USD) School of Law alumnus Christopher B. Hayes, ’10 (JD), was quoted in the Financial Times article, "Investors in Private Equity Funds Need to Stay on their Toes: SEC’s Warns of Risk of Firms Putting their Own Interests Ahead of Those of Clients." Hayes is the Senior Policy Counsel at Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA), in Washington, D.C., and a member of both the USD School of Law Alumni Association Board of Directors and USD Washington D.C. Law Alumni Chapter Board. At ILPA, Hayes leads the day-to-day U.S. and European advocacy efforts as the primary association of institutional investors investing in private equity, including public and corporate pensions, insurance companies, endowments and family offices, while and representing over $2 trillion in assets globally. In addition to his advocacy role, Chris leads the ILPA limited partnership agreement simplification project.

Hayes said, “The risk alert highlighted the need for continued, improved transparency in fees and expenses, as well as an enhanced focus on strong fiduciary duties in fund agreements.”
