SAN FRANCISCO (May 14, 2020) – University of San Diego (USD) School of Law alumnus Bradford G. Hughes, ‘06 (JD), was quoted in a Law360 article, “Defiant Tesla Sues Calif. County, Reopens Plant in Power Play” on May 11. Hughes is transportation litigation attorney and Member of Clark Hill PLC’s Los Angeles and San Francisco offices, and a member of the USD Los Angeles Law Alumni Chapter Board.

The article covers the recent developments of Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s decision to reopen its California-based factory in defiance of county orders. Hughes commented on the tension between local and state governments as entities all over the nation navigate reopening businesses. "Beyond the clamor and fanfare that comes with anything involving Elon Musk and Tesla, the lawsuit raises issues that have sweeping implications across California and perhaps the entire country," said Hughes.

"The issue presented by the case is relatively simple: Can Alameda keep the Tesla factory closed based on local health orders if the governor's orders would allow the factory to be open? As with most legal disputes, the devil is in the details," Hughes summarized.
