Students Honored at Legal Aid Society Pro Bono Program Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon

SAN DIEGO (July 3, 2019) – On May 31, 2019, the University of San Diego (USD) School of Law students and graduates were honored for their pro bono service at the Legal Aid Society of San Diego Pro Bono Program Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon.

Legal Aid Society of San Diego (LASSD) issued awards to 19 law students and recent graduates in recognition of the significant pro bono contribution they made in the past year. Each had donated more than 50 hours of pro bono service, and many had donated more than 150 hours.

The Outstanding Service Award was awarded to individuals who made a tremendous contribution to legal services to poor people through the LASSD Pro Bono Program. USD School of Law recipients of this award included: Charles Baker, Alanna D'Alessandro, Ashley Kearney, Shivani Kumbhojkar, Helen Lockett, David Martinez-Gonzalez, Monet Mccord, Michael Melton, and Clarence Reyes.

 

The State Bar’s Wiley M. Manuel Award was awarded to individuals who donated more than 50 hours of legal services to LASSD over the past 12 months. USD School of Law recipients of this award included: Kaitlin Amos, Charles Baker, Andrew Brodkin, Alanna D'Alessandro, Erin Cole, Kristie Espiritu, Alexander Greisen, Ashley Kearney, Shivani Kumbhojkar, Helen Lockett, Jasey Mahon, Gaaret Marinelli, David Martinez-Gonzalez, Monet Mccord, Michael Melton, Clarence Reyes, Hyla Schneir, John Wagner, and Samantha Young.

The School of Law was recognized for its commitment to pro bono service and was the recipient of one of Legal Aid Society of San Diego’s Outstanding Service Awards. Assistant Director of Public Service Parisa Ijadi-Maghsoodi accepted the award on behalf of USD Law.
