Melissa Hensley ’95 (JD) Honored by Texas Diversity Council for Top 50 Women Lawyers Award

DALLAS (August 14, 2018) – University of San Diego (USD) School of Law Alumna Melissa Hensley, ’95 (JD), was selected by the Texas Diversity Council’s Top 50 Women Lawyers Award. This award seeks to recognize women in the legal arena who have not only achieved personal success but have paved the way for others to follow their example. The winners will be announced on September 25, 2018.

Hensley is a Senior Counsel at McGuireWoods LLP’s Dallas office where she focuses on the defense of collective/class actions and individual claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act, Title VII and state discrimination laws. She has represented employers facing wage-and-hour claims in more than 40 U.S. district courts and defeated wage-and-hour class certification in multiple federal jurisdictions. Hensley has won more than 20 summary judgments in U.S. district courts affirming that the executive exemption for overtime pay applies to retail store managers. She is a former chair of the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center Board of Trustees and served as a board member from 2008-2015.

Hensley is a graduate of USD School of Law and received her BBA from University of Oklahoma, with Special Distinction.
