In February 2018, University of San Diego (USD) School of Law was named the Pacific Regional Champion for the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition. The USD School of Law team, Ryan Cannon (3L), Stephanie Dusso (3L), Kayla Watson (2L), Shane Killeen (2L), and Jacob Yang (2L), traveled to Portland with their team advisor Peter Stockburger '09 (JD) and won the Pacific Championship with a perfect record of 7-0 against teams from throughout the country.

The Jessup Competition is the world's largest moot court competition, with over 100 countries and 600 law schools participating. Each year, law students from around the world compete under the same problem - a fictional dispute between two countries at the United Nations International Court of Justice. The students are required to navigate complicated areas of public international law and international relations, and must each present a 22 minute argument before a three judge tribunal. This year's problem dealt with contemporary issues such as nuclear proliferation, underwater drones, international arbitration procedure, and the laws of war.

In April, the team competed in the Jessup World Championship Competition in Washington, D.C., against 100 teams from 95 countries. The team finished in the top 32 overall, and team members Ryan Cannon and Stephanie Dusso won 10th and 11th best oralists.
