Dr. Cameron Awarded the WACES Professional Service Award

Dr. Erika Cameron

Dr. Erika Cameron, Associate Professor and Department Chair for Counseling and Marital & Family Therapy, recently received the WACES Professional Service Award. The Western Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (WACES) Professional Service Award honors outstanding service to WACES and/or to the cause of counselor education and supervision that is of regional and national importance to the profession. Colleagues from other institutions nominated Dr. Cameron. 

In their letters, they said, "As a Counselor Educator, Dr. Cameron has demonstrated commitment to multiculturalism, social justice, ongoing service, innovation within the counseling profession, leadership at a regional and national level of the counseling profession, and educating and supervising counselors-in-training to become our future leaders and change agents. Dr. Cameron has been instrumental in the Western Association of Counselor Education and Supervision implementing culturally responsive telehealth and launching the Journal of Technology in Counselor Education and Supervision (JTCES), the flagship Journal of the Western Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. Dr. Cameron along with Drs. Pope, Gonzalez, and Pangelinan (Co-Edited), Experiential Activities for Teaching Social Justice and Advocacy Competence in Counseling (2019). This book is for counselor educators to implement social justice and advocacy competencies into core and specialty counseling courses." Additionally, another colleague said, "As a colleague and friend, I have had the honor to witness her inspire others, collaborate with compassion, provide continuous support and supervision, take risks and promote growth/opportunities, and demonstrate ongoing respect and cultural consciousness. She is truly a visionary and role model for so many of us."
