Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering Joins the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN)

The University of San Diego Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering is the newest partner of the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN) dedicated to instilling an entrepreneurial mindset in undergraduate engineers.

This mindset enables engineering students to create personal, economic and societal value by understanding the bigger picture, recognizing opportunities and learning from their mistakes.

"The USD Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering is an educational leader. We are thrilled that they have joined KEEN. Like other leading partners, they agree that an entrepreneurial mindset is an essential complement to an engineering skill set. More than ever, their graduates will be prepared to create value in a changing world," said KEEN Program Director Dr. Doug Melton.

With USD, KEEN will have 43 members across the country, including Arizona State University, Duke University and Georgia Tech.

Members advance entrepreneurially-minded learning for undergraduates by improving teaching and curriculum, sharing materials and resources and influencing the broader engineering ecosystem.

"We are excited about expanding our network and capacity to engage students and faculty in developing an entrepreneurial mindset through KEEN's leadership and by infusing the ideas of curiosity, connections and creating value with innovative thinking in the workplace," said Chell Roberts, dean of the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering.

The Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering values being a KEEN partner because it feeds directly into the school's and the university's vision of practicing changemaking. "We are an Ashoka Changemaker campus and the entire campus values 'making a positive impact,'" Roberts added.
