Athletics: USD Baseball Dominates 2025 WCC End-Of-Year Awards
Toreros take home 2025 WCC Coach, Pitcher, and Defensive Player of the Year honors

After engineering the most stunning midseason turnaround in program history and leading San Diego baseball to a second consecutive WCC Regular-Season Championship, Brock Ungricht has been named the 2025 WCC Coach of The Year, Cal Scolari has been named the 2025 WCC Pitcher of the Year, and catcher Jayden Lobliner has been named the 2025 WCC Defensive Player of the Year, the West Coast Conference announced on Tuesday.
Ungricht, Scolari, and Lobliner headlined a flurry of end-of-year conference awards for USD that saw four Toreros named to the 2025 All-WCC First Team, three selected to the 2025 All-WCC Second Team, two earn 2025 All-WCC Honorable Mentions, and three pick up 2025 All-WCC Freshman Team nods.
For Ungricht, it's his second straight WCC Coach of the Year honor after also being recognized in 2024. He's the first WCC coach to win the award in back-to-back seasons since Gonzaga's Mark Machtolf in 2021 and 2022, and the first USD skipper to do so since Rich Hill in 2007 and 2008. 2025 marks the eighth time that San Diego has received the WCC Coach of the Year award.
After playing the 11th most difficult non-conference schedule in the country, Ungricht rallied his team from a 6-24 start to post a 19-5 record in WCC play, at one point recording 10 wins in a row en-route to a second straight regular-season conference crown. His team won seven consecutive conference series to close out its schedule, including four sweeps of WCC foes. The Toreros enter Thursday afternoon's WCC Tournament opener having won 19 of their last 24 games.
