Athletics: Seventh-Ranked San Diego Beats No. 25 Pepperdine for WCC Tournament Title

No. 7 San Diego Men's Tennis hoisted it's eighth WCC Tournament Title in the last nine seasons, powering to a 4-2 win over No. 23 Pepperdine on Saturday night at the Aztec Tennis Center.

The Toreros rebounded from a dropped doubles point to post impressive results across the board in singles on the road to victory and a second consecutive conference tournament championship. Now 23-3 on the season with 11 of those wins being over top-25 opponents, seventh-ranked San Diego will next wait to hear it's name called in Monday's NCAA Tournament Selection Show, in which the top 16 teams host a regional. In the program's 45-year history, USD has never hosted an NCAA Tournament round.

Eight days ago, the Toreros traveled up to Malibu and topped the Waves – also by a score of 4-2 – to clinch a fourth straight WCC regular season title. Today's match, while the same score, was won through a different formula. Contrary to a week prior, USD lost the doubles point on Saturday under the title match lights. Pepperdine claimed the point with wins on both courts two and three.
