USD Hires Next Dean of the Knauss School of Business

Brian C. Tietje, PhD, has been named the next dean of the University of San Diego’s Knauss School of Business, the university announced Monday. He will assume his new position on July 1, 2025.
Tietje, the current dean of the College of Business at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, has had a distinguished career as a dean, professor and successful leader in various academic environments. Prior to his role as business dean, Tietje had a 22-year career at Cal Poly (San Luis Obispo) that included nine years as vice provost of International, Graduate & Extended Education and award-winning marketing professor in the Orfalea College of Business.
Continually pursuing opportunities for educational innovation and a passionate advocate for student success, Tietje has consulted with a variety of organizations as a strategic planning facilitator and board member for several nonprofits in family services and economic development. Devoted to community service, Tietje has served on several boards for organizations including the Family Care Network, the Economic Vitality Corporation, the Corpus Christi Housing Authority and Junior Achievement.
Tietje’s research has been published in a variety of fields and applications including consumer psychology, retailing, industrial sales, pedagogical innovations in business and marketing education, and noncognitive factors that impact student success.
He has also authored a range of textbooks in topic areas including introduction to business and student success. He holds an undergraduate business degree from Bowling Green State University, master’s degree from the University of Hawaii, and doctorate degree from the University of Washington.
