USD Hosts Hundreds of Students for 12th Annual Mariachi Conference

Hundreds of students from around the country will gather on the University of San Diego (USD) campus for an event that celebrates mariachi music and provides world-class instruction. This year will also feature performances honoring Rigoberto Alfaro, an influential mariachi musician who died late last year.

This is the 12th Annual USD Mariachi Conference, an event that attracts young musicians of all skill levels. Students will be separated into groups based on their instruments, and given expert instruction from professional mariachi musicians. Following those workshops Friday, students will compete in live performances that are open to the public.

Below are compilations of the USD Mariachi Ensemble preparing for the event, along with sound bites in English and Spanish.
