Experts to Analyze How Recent Elections Could Shape Local and National Economies at 41st Annual San Diego Economic Roundtable
On January 16, 2025, the 41st Annual San Diego Economic Roundtable will bring together the region's top economic experts to explore how recent election results — both locally and nationally — could impact jobs, businesses and opportunities in San Diego and beyond. Hosted by the University of San Diego (USD)’s Knauss School of Business, San Diego Workforce Partnership and San Diego Regional Policy & Innovation Center, and sponsored by C3bank, this highly anticipated event will provide critical insights into the economic outlook for 2025.
The theme of this year's event, Shaping Tomorrow: How Economic Policies Will Impact Our Region, will focus on how shifting political landscapes could reshape key economic sectors. Panelists Ryan Ratcliff, PhD, associate professor of economics at USD’s Knauss School of Business; Daniel Enemark, PhD, chief economist at the San Diego Regional Policy & Innovation Center; and Kenia Zamarripa, vice president of international and public affairs at the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce; will provide in-depth analysis into how new policies, both locally and nationally, could influence everything from employment trends to market dynamics.
This year’s keynote speaker is Kyla Scanlon (@kylascan), a financial content creator, educator and author of the new book In This Economy? How Money and Markets Really Work. Scanlon will introduce her innovative concept known as the "Vibecession," where she will explore the emotional and psychological factors that drive financial decision-making.
The event will take place at USD’s Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice Theatre from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. It will feature expert-led roundtable discussions and Scanlon’s keynote address. The event will be free to USD students, staff, and faculty (registration required), and the general public is invited to attend with a $10 ticket that includes prepaid parking.
In addition to the main event, college students are invited to join Scanlon for an interactive, student-focused session from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at USD's Knauss Center for Business Education – Nexus Theater. The session will focus on the challenges of navigating today’s economy, including rising living costs and career prospects. Scanlon will provide insights into how young people can prepare for successful careers in business, economics or policy, offering guidance on making informed financial decisions in the current economic climate.
