USD Community Unites for Another Successful Torero Tuesday
Annual day of giving raises more than $2.3 million in 24-hours
The University of San Diego (USD) celebrated its Tenth Annual Torero Tuesday with another hugely successful day of giving. More than $2.3 million was raised by the global Torero community, which will support more than 130 campus initiatives.
Each year, the USD community rallies to support philanthropic giving, showcasing the power of unity and the impact that Toreros have on the lives of students and programs.
A special thank you to all the challenge gift sponsors — Mark and Amanda Bosco, David Hale, Denise Hickey ’94 JD, Pat Morrin ’83, Karen and Tom ’77 Mulvaney, Virginia Nelson ’79 JD and Mark Andrews, the O'Connor and Vollmer Family, and Darlene Marcos Shiley — for their outstanding confidence in what can be accomplished when Toreros come together.
Tom Mulvaney, chair of the USD Board of Trustees, reflected on the most recent day of giving.
"Karen and I are proud to be a part of Torero Tuesday again this year and are grateful to alumni and the USD community for their overwhelming support of USD students and programs,” he said.
This is the sixth consecutive year that the Mulvaneys have provided the funds for the signature Torero Tuesday challenges.

The USD Student Philanthropy Council again hosted a successful scavenger hunt to add to the on-campus engagement. The effort was created last year to highlight the history of USD donors. Enthusiastic students sprinted around, searching high and low to find stuffed Lil’ T Toreros planted around campus. Winners were given the opportunity to designate Torero Tuesday challenge funds to one of the USD funds of their choice.
The inaugural Torero Tuesday was held in 2015 with a goal of $100,000.
