University of San Diego President James T. Harris III, DEd, writes a blog called “President Harris’ Perspective,” where he shares his thoughts on life as a Torero and lessons he’s learning as the leader of the university. Earlier this summer, Harris penned several blog entries providing personal accounts of his second pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago

“Probably my biggest takeaway has been that creating a sense of community is still possible, even within a diverse group of people who don’t know each other well,” Harris wrote. “However, it doesn’t come easy and requires work. First, having a common mission or common goal matters.”

Harris joined roughly two dozen Toreros on the recent trip, which was organized by the USD Alumni Association. He participated in his first pilgrimage in 2022.

“I read about the Camino and thought it would be a great way for our alumni to be involved in one of our travel programs,” Harris said following the initial trek.

The Camino de Santiago, known in English as the “Way of St. James,” is a series of routes leading to the apostle’s shrine at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, where many believe his burial site is located.
