USD Celebrates Black History Month 2024
The University of San Diego will be celebrating Black History Month throughout the month of February. Check in weekly to the USD News Center to read original stories that recognize and celebrate the Black community at USD.
The following is a list of Black History Month events that delve into issues and celebrate and recognize greatness, excellence and legacies within the Black community.

Black Grads Matter with Dr. Rhonda Harley

Black graduate, law, and PhD students as well as faculty, staff, and alumni are invited to join us for our Black Grads Matter program. While allies are welcome in this space, we ask that they honor the space by centering the Black student experience. Guest Speaker Dr. Rhonda Harley, Assistant Dean of Student Engagement and Inclusive Excellence at the Shiley- Marcos School of Engineering.
Free Fitness Friday - Spin for Black History Month

Campus Recreation is offering a series of free fitness classes, and February's spin class celebrates Black History Month. Class will be taught by our very own Director, Serena Gandara, and feature music by Black artists.

Fearing the Black Body with Dr. Sabrina Strings
Feb. 26, 7pm to 9pm
Join us on Monday February 26, 2024 to hear professor and North Hall Chair of Black Studies at UC Santa Barbara, Dr. Sabrina Strings, speak about her award-winning book, Fearing the Black Body: The Racial Origins of Fat Phobia. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing at the event. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
DiversiTEA: Black Queer Fashion & History
Feb. 27, 12:30pm to 1:30pm
Exploring how the Black Queer community has influenced fashion trends over the years.
