This is your USD News Minute.

Welcome back, Toreros! The first day of Spring semester classes start Thursday. A reminder that you can find the latest information on USD’s COVID policies at USD Onward. There are free rapid tests available at the bookstore, and with Residential Life. And remember you can reduce your chance of getting sick by washing your hands.

Associate professor of communication Nikki Usher brought in academic and policy experts from around the country to discuss how media policy might address the crisis of local journalism, and the critical information needs of communities. Sponsored by the Social Science Research Council, the workshop is part of a special issue Usher’s co-editing for the ANNALS of the American Academy of Social and Political Science.

Scholars from around the country are gathering at USD, for a first-of-its-kind conference hosted by the Franciscan School of Theology. “Re-imagining the World” will look at how the teachings of Saint Francis and leadership of Pope Francis can help address contemporary issues. Cardinal Robert McElroy will be one of the speakers. The conference will be held Saturday in the Peace and Justice Theatre.

As always, thank you for watching and we’ll see you next week.
