SAN DIEGO (January 10, 2023) – University of San Diego (USD) School of Law Warren Distinguished Professor of Law was named a mentor for the Racial Equity in Technology Policy Accelerator. The Racial Equity in Technology Policy Accelerator is a joint initiative by the Federation of American Scientists and the Kapor Center – an organization that aims to remove the barriers to STEM education and tech careers for underrepresented people of color.

The accelerator aims to identify, develop, and publish a set of racial justice and technology policy ideas to be implemented by the legislative and executive branches. Selected participants will have a chance to develop their ideas with guidance from policy advisors, meet with veteran policymakers to learn more about the nuances of policy implementation, hone their ability to craft actionable policy on the federal level, and build a community with their fellow cohort. Professor Lobel was selected as one of the mentors that will help guide this first cohort in this mission.

Warren Distinguished Professor of Law and University Professor Orly Lobel is the founding director of the Center for Employment and Labor Law.  Lobel is among the most cited legal scholars in the country and has received numerous awards in recent years, including the Thorsnes Prize for Outstanding Legal Scholarship and the Irving Oberman Memorial Award. Her three books have won prestigious awards and have shaped policy debates. Her newest book is titled The Equality Machine: Harnessing Digital Technology for a Brighter, More Inclusive Future.
