USD School of Law Announces Four New Professorships

SAN DIEGO (November 4, 2022) – University of San Diego (USD) School of Law recently recognized four highly respected members of the faculty with named professorships.

Miranda Perry Fleischer will become the Richard and Kay Woltman Professor in Finance. A renowned scholar whose research bridges tax and philosophy, Professor Fleischer heads the USD School of Law Tax Speaker Series. She was previously named a University Professor for the 2020-2021 academic year, the highest faculty honor given at USD.

Adam Hirsch will become the inaugural Napoleon Jones Professor of Law. Professor Hirsch is among the most cited scholars in the areas of wills, trusts, and estates. His cutting-edge scholarship addresses, among other areas, how the law of trusts and estates intersects with emerging concerns of technology, privacy, and data security. He has assessed the public policy implications of allowing testators to create electronic wills and has considered the problems of electronic tampering by heirs, hacking by outsiders, and data degeneration over time.

Michael Ramsey will become a Warren Distinguished Professor of Law. Professor Ramsey's scholarship focuses on the constitutional and international law aspects of U.S. foreign relations, particularly in the areas of war powers, treaties, and presidential authority, as well as on the litigation of transnational claims in U.S. courts. His works on the topics of international law and security are among the most cited in the field. Professor Ramsey has also served as a member of the Presidential Commission on the Supreme Court of the United States.

Ted Sichelman will become the inaugural Judith Keep Professor of Law. Professor Sichelman is one of the country's most-cited IP & Cyberlaw scholars. Among other areas, his scholarship examines the concerns that arise when patented inventions generate sensitive data that fall within the control of the patent owner. He has hosted The Patent Conference (PatCon), the largest annual conference for patent law academics, and the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence & Law (ICAIL), the largest recurring academic conference on AI & Law.
