The Department of Physics and Biophysics celebrated the graduating class of 2022 at the Graduates Celebration on May 26 held in the Shiley Center for Science and Technology. Graduating seniors were recognized for their hard work and academic achievements during their time at USD as their family, friends, and faculty mentors looked on proudly.

Physics and Biophysics graduates Catherine Gibson, Gregor Leech and Philip Neill were presented with the Outstanding Senior Award by Dr. Rae Anderson, and departmental honors certificates and recognition for service were also distributed to well-deserving seniors. Another portion of the event included the induction of six graduates into Sigma Pi Sigma (SPS), the national physics honor society by SPS Faculty Advisor, Dr. Chad Kishimoto.

The following Sunday, May 28, physics and biophysics graduates walked across the stage at Torero Stadium at the 63rd Graduate Commencement Ceremony to receive their diplomas from USD President, James T. Harris III, DEd.

This year’s graduates will go on to pursue graduate school, full-time professional roles, research in physics and biophysics, and academic publications.
