Franciscan School of Theology Announces New Vice President for Academic Affairs Starting July 2021
Welcome Dr. Juliet Mousseau, RSCJ to Franciscan School of Theology
Dr. Juliet Mousseau, RSCJWe are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Juliet Mousseau, RSCJ as our next Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Mousseau is currently Professor of Church History at the Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis.
Sr. Juliet brings a unique academic background to her new role at FST. A student of an outstanding Bonaventure scholar at St. Louis University, Prof. Wayne Hellmann, OFM Conv., she specialized in the pre-Franciscan tradition at Paris. Her specialization is the theology taught at the Abbey of St. Victor (Victorines), where they brought the theology of St. Augustine into dialogue with the new realities of urban Paris. That school can be considered the “incubator” destined to contribute so much to the founding of the Franciscan theological tradition. Her research and publications in this field will be a great enrichment to our programs at FST. Hugh of St. Victor’s “knowledge is for love” has guided our own mission at FST to make education formative and transformative. Richard of St. Victor’s focus on the primacy of love and the reality of God’s goodness is extensively developed in Bonaventure’s focus on the love between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit within the Trinity. It is in God’s image that we are made; it is Love that bestows upon each person a great human dignity, something at the core of FST’s spiritual and social mission. Dr. Mousseau’s deep knowledge of one of the sources of our own tradition will add substantially to our mission to become the premier center of Franciscan graduate theological education in the English-speaking world.
Sr. Juliet brings to us a rich background of teaching and administrative service. Her teaching has focused on Church History and Religious Life. Her research centers on Medieval theology, theology of the Holy Spirit, the liturgy and spirituality of the Middle Ages. Her administrative experience includes demonstrated skills in assessment, accreditation, academic advising, and faculty hiring. She is fluent in Spanish and has certificates in intercultural competence and online education. She has published widely in both academic and popular forms.
