Each year, the University of San Diego finals event for the Fowler Global Social Innovation Challenge (GSIC) brings together student thought-leaders from across campus to pitch bold solutions to big ideas. On April 28 at 5:30 p.m., 15 student teams will share their innovations for world-changing ideas.

Hosted by the Center for Peace and Commerce, this year’s virtual event will be broadcast live on YouTube, featuring pitches from the teams, each with innovative proposals that address one or more of the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.

For many of the teams, this is their first time competing in this annual event which is entering its 10th year. Project proposals range from cleantech inspired ideas like recycling wind turbine blades to mediating and preventing conflict through the arts.

The 15 teams will compete for $15,000 in seed funding, with the top two USD teams advancing to the June 12 Fowler GSIC Global Finals. A partnership between USD and the University of St. Thomas, the global finals will be hosted this year by the University of St. Thomas as a hybrid event. Over the past decade, the Fowler GSIC has distributed more than $370,00 in global ventures with more than 900 teams and 35 universities participating.
