USD Ranked #1 in the Nation for Most Committed to Public Service

Purple Washington Monthly magazine cover with 2020 rankings info

The University of San Diego is proud to be ranked the highest university in the nation by Washington Monthly for its commitment to public service!

The publication calculated the community service score by measuring each institution’s performance on five different measures — the number of students who choose to serve their country as a member of the military, the institution’s dedication to community service, the voting engagement of its students, the number of alumni involved who are active in the Peace Corps and the number of students who receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award for completing a term of service with AmeriCorps, a voluntary civil society that, with support from the U.S. federal government, foundations, corporations, and other donors, engages adults in public service work with a goal of “helping others and meeting critical needs in the community.”

“Whether that is through our highly regarded NROTC program, or the outreach we do through our changemaker hub or the Mulvaney Center on campus, we fully embrace our role in preparing the next generation of civic leaders who are also compassionate citizens,” said USD President James Harris.
