Maria Arroyo '79 (JD) helps others find things they need - for free

Sometimes, the best things in life really are free. And Ramona resident Maria Arroyo '79 (JD) knows this fact better than most.

“Everyone has something to give and something they can receive,” Arroyo said. “It’s good to ask for things and find the community can meet your needs.

Now retired, Arroyo has lived much of her life helping others. She has been a juvenile court referee, a federal prosecutor and served in the Army, doing military intelligence, at the end of the Vietnam War.

While making people feel part of the community seems to be an Arroyo trademark, finding solutions is another.

In her role as administrator, or admin, on the Buy Nothing Project Ramona Facebook site, she is a problem solver. The site allows residents to give and receive items for free, and the recipients don’t have to be in need. Items can be big or small, serious or silly.
