CAI Report Mentioned in The Telegraph on State Agencies Hiding Child Deaths

SAN DIEGO (October 14, 2020) – University of San Diego (USD) School of Law Children’s Advocacy Institute (CAI) was mentioned in an article highlighting how state agencies have suppressed child death reports over the past decade.

According to the article, “[c]riticism of the exemption's use is longstanding: A 2008 report issued by the Children's Advocacy Institute, an arm of University of San Diego Law School, called the exemption a 'severely restrictive, substantive limitation' of the law, and suggested the lack of transparency hindered reforms that could save lives.”

About the Children’s Advocacy Institute

The Children's Advocacy Institute (CAI), founded at the nonprofit University of San Diego School of Law in 1989, is one of the nation's premiere academic, research, and advocacy organizations working to improve the lives of children and youth, with special emphasis on improving the child protection and foster care systems and enhancing resources that are available to youth aging out of foster care.
