This is your USD News Minute.

The innovation and creativity of our students will be in full effect this week at the annual Engineering and Computing Showcase. Student teams have partnered with organizations like General Atomics and Hi-Q to complete forty unique capstone projects. The projects range from human powered vehicles to water purification systems for rural Uganda. If you want to attend the virtual sessions, visit the engineering website.

As society adapts to COVID-19, our faculty continue to contribute their insights. Associate professor Austin Choi-Fitzpatrick and his colleagues have documented how the virus is changing the ways in which we peacefully protest. You can read about their findings on The Guardian, and watch an interview by Dean Patricia Marquez on the Kroc School YouTube channel.

A former Torero stand-out is headed to the NFL. This past week, quarterback Reid Sinnett signed a free-agent deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There, he will have the opportunity to learn from one of the all-time greats, Tom Brady. We wish him all the best.

As always, stay safe, stay healthy, and we’ll see you next week.
