Torero Tidbits: Campus Closure, Re-Openings; Basketball; Study Abroad; Martin Luther King Jr. Parade

The University of San Diego campus will be closed Dec. 24-Jan. 1 with various services re-opening on January 2, 6, 26, and 27.London is one of several destinations for USD undergraduate students to go for an international study abroad trip during Intersession 2020. Graduate students also go abroad during Intersession.

Campus Closed Through Jan. 1, Auxiliary Services Re-Openings in January

The University of San Diego campus will be closed from Dec. 24-Jan. 1, with services varying on their re-openings on Jan. 2, 6, 26 and 27.

The USD Auxiliary Services includes, all dining options, Torero Store, University Copy and Mail, the Campus Card office and the U.S. Bank branch on the lower level of the Hahn University Center.

Men’s Basketball Home Game Dec. 29

The last USD Athletics sporting event of 2019 will be a 2 p.m. home game on Sunday, Dec. 29 for the USD men’s basketball team. The Toreros will take on Whittier College in a nonconference game in the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Come cheer on the Toreros as they play their final game before West Coast Conference play opens on the road Jan. 2.

After the Dec. 29 game, USD’s next home game is Thursday, Jan. 9 against nationally Top 25 ranked Gonzaga at 7 p.m.

Intersession International Study Abroad for USD Undergraduate, Graduate Students

Several students at the University of San Diego will celebrate the new year with an international experience by way of a study abroad academic trip in January. Places for Intersession 2020 for undergraduate students are: Buenos Aires, Argentina; a tour of Asia (South Korea, Taiwan and Cambodia); Sydney, Australia; London, England; Duncans, Jamaica; Tokyo, Japan; Florence, Italy or Auckland, New Zealand (two Second-Year Experience Abroad destinations for sophomores only); and one trip inside the U.S., the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. A variety of class subjects were available from College of Arts and Sciences, USD School of Business and Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering.

Graduate business students (through Ahlers Center for International Business), nursing and College of Arts and Sciences’ master’s in international relations have Intersession study abroad opportunities, too.

Join USD Community at San Diego’s Martin Luther King Jr. Parade Jan. 19

Join USD students, athletes, faculty, staff, administrators and alumni to walk as a united USD community group at the 40th Downtown San Diego Martin Luther King Jr. Parade on Sunday, Jan. 19.

All participants are asked to meet at 1:15 p.m. in the staging area located at the County Administration Building Parking lot 1600 Pacific Highway. The parade begins at 2 p.m. Wear your USD Torero blue! 

This parade is coordinated by the Zeta Sigma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, the oldest Black fraternity in America, of which Dr. King was a member. This is one of the largest celebrations of its kind in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the United States. The parade is filled with dazzling floats, soulful high school bands, drill teams, colleges, fraternities, churches, organizations, peace groups and youth groups.
