First-Year LLC, Spring TLC Students Present Integration Projects

The University of San Diego's programs for first-year students and spring semester transfer newcomers, the Living Learning Communities and the Engage Transfer Learning Community held their respective integration showcase events on April 30 and April 25, respectively.

The LLC Showcase, which is for those who are in the Class of 2022, was impressively held in the Jenny Craig Pavilion for the first time, definitely showing not only student projects, but also the fact that this is USD's largest freshman class in history, a whopping 1,300-plus Toreros.

The Engage Transfer Learning Community showcase featured a more modest setting, the Hahn University Center's Forums A and B, but there were a variety of creative projects themed on the term of studying and building community.

At the LLC event, the five themes of Advocate, Collaborate, Cultivate, Illuminate and Innovate were visibly displayed. Two of the themed areas — Advocate and Illuminate — were located around the top rim of the JCP while the remaining three LLC designations were spread throughout across the arena floor.

The point for both events is a combination of achievable goals.

For the LLC students, participation fulfills their core first-year integration requirement. Through their project, they recognize and articulate connections between topics explored during a Fall LLC course and a Spring LLC course within the context of their respective themes.

For transfer students — there is a separate integration showcase in late fall for new transfer students — the TLC program is designed to aid students' transition into USD, both academically and socially. Transfer student projects differ from LLC projects in that they only base it on one class and, in conjunction with past academic experience, they're able to fulfill the theme of engage.
