USD Wine Classic Brings Taste of Napa and Sonoma to San Diego

San Diegans won’t need to go any further than the beautiful University of San Diego campus this summer to get a taste of some of the best wineries from the Napa and Sonoma valleys.

The second annual USD Wine Classic takes place Sunday, July 25 at 2 p.m.  in the Garden of the Sea overlooking Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean at the university’s Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice. The event features more than 25 USD family wineries (owned or managed by USD alumni, parents and friends) with wines poured by the owners and vintners. Participating wineries include Caymus Vineyards, Charles Krug, Joseph Phelps, St. Francis Winery, and Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery.

Proceeds from the event are expected to raise more than $40,000 to support student scholarships at USD. Approximately 65 percent of all undergraduate students at USD receive some form of financial aid.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a gourmet experience at an affordable price and support deserving students at the same time,” said Martin Kaplan, director of Alumni Relations at USD.  The event includes the wine tasting along with gourmet paired food, music and a silent auction. More than 500 tickets have already been sold and fewer than 100 remain for the event that is becoming one of the premiere wine-tasting events on the West Coast.

Along with wineries from Napa and Sonoma, several of the biggest names in Baja wineries are also participating including Adobe Guadalupe, L.A. Cetto and Monte Xanic.

Tickets are $75 per person and are available at www.usdwineclassic.com. Call (619) 260-4819 for more information.
