Olé! Weekend Orientation: Ready to Welcome Newest Toreros

Ole! Weekend

Welcome, new Toreros! The countdown to the launch of the 2016-17 University of San Diego academic year on Wednesday, August 31 is in its final stages. First-year Toreros are eager to start their journey as a member of the Class of 2020. Transfer students are preparing for a new campus and new opportunities.

The only thing standing between now and the first day of class are orientation launch events collectively known as Olé! Weekend for first-year students. They will move into their residence halls, connect with fellow classmates, faculty and student staff leaders, and immerse into the USD community Aug. 26-30. A Fall Transfer Student Orientation program is Aug. 27-30 for resident transfers and Aug. 28-29 for commuter transfers.

A host of events catering to both new students and their families will take place throughout campus all weekend, including special welcome events Aug. 26 for first-generation students, international students and black students as well as open house gatherings for many centers and offices. Several informative services such as Campus Card Services, the USD Torero Store, Mail Center, One Stop Student Center, Parking Services, U.S. Bank and the ITS Help Desk will be open at various times during the weekend.

Students will also have ample opportunities to meet and have meals with resident assistants, preceptorial assistants and with their respective Living Learning Communities. A Mass of Welcome takes place on Sunday at 11 a.m. in the Jenny Craig Pavilion. The New Student Convocation will be held at the JCP on Monday and USD Athletics will host a showcase event Monday night at USD's Fowler Park.

One major off-campus event is "A Night at the San Diego Zoo," which is presented by Associated Students, on Sunday, Aug. 28.
