Professor Auerbach Celebrates 100th Birthday

San Diego (October 2, 2015) – Today University of San Diego (USD) School of Law celebrated the 100th birthday of Professor Emeritus Carl A. Auerbach.
Professor Auerbach taught for more than 30 years at the University of Wisconsin and at the University of Minnesota, and joined USD's law faculty in 1985, where he taught and wrote the areas of administrative and constitutional law. Auerbach was the 1994 recipient of the prestigious American Bar Foundation Award for outstanding research in law and government. He is a member of the American Law Institute and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
"Carl isn't just any old law professor," said Gail Heriot, a law professor at USD and commissioner on the United States Civil Rights Commission. "He was a significant player in the history of our nation."
Robert Caro's biography of President Lyndon B. Johnson, Master of the Senate, makes it clear that without Carl Auerbach, there would not have been a Civil Rights Act of 1957, which according to Heriot means that the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights would not exist, nor would the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice.
The law school and university wish Professor Auerbach a very happy 100th birthday.
