USD Joins Effort to Enhance Binational Education in Region

The University of San Diego joins other higher education institutions in announcing the official launch of the CaliBaja Higher Education Consortium (CHEC).
This cross-border alliance brings together universities, research centers, diplomatic partners, business leaders, and community organizations from California and Baja California. USD’s involvement in the education initiative was initiated by the School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES).
The memorandum of understanding was signed officially on Friday, December 12, at the University of California, San Diego.
The CHEC is a collaborative initiative with a mission to foster deep and lasting cooperation in higher education across the border, creating a truly integrated and dynamic educational landscape that meets the needs of students, educators, and the region's economy and society.
The CaliBaja region is defined by a dynamic symbiosis that is unique in North America. Here, the United States and México are not merely adjacent but rather a singular, interconnected ecosystem where economy, culture, arts, and business flow as one. This deep integration extends to our shared environment, where sustainability and natural resources are inextricably linked across the border.
Despite this profound interconnectedness, too few graduates possess the specific skill sets required to drive our region’s future prosperity. To meet this challenge, the Calibaja Higher Education Consortium (CHEC) is launching a robust binational framework.
Beyond classroom learning, CHEC will unlock unprecedented binational research opportunities for students on both sides of the border, preparing them to be the informed leaders and innovators our one-of-a-kind binational economy demands.
