USD Nursing Students Host 2nd Annual Community Health and Wellness Fair

Nursing

Students from the University of San Diego's (USD) Masters Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN) successfully partnered with Linda Vista United Methodist Church over the weekend to host the 2nd annual Community Health and Wellness Fair.

This vital community initiative, which serves as a component of the students' Care of Populations course, was significantly bolstered by grant funding. Under the leadership of USD Adjunct Nursing Faculty, Holly Smith, a grant proposal was submitted and approved by the Changemaker Hub, in partnership with the Mulvaney Center for Community, Awareness, and Social Action.

A key objective of planning the Wellness Fair was for MEPN students to gain hands-on experience in co-creating innovative and sustainable collaborations with community partners in Linda Vista. This collaborative process is fundamental to developing effective health initiatives and promoting positive social change.

At the event, MEPN students directly engaged with the Linda Vista community by offering essential health screenings and educational resources, including:

  • Demonstrating "hands-only" CPR techniques.

  • Performing blood pressure checks.

  • Conducting A1C checks for diabetes awareness
