“Care for Your Hair and Your Mind” Event Blends Self-Care and Mental Health

Care for Your Hair Event and Your Mind

Looking good and feeling even better. That was the atmosphere at the Center for Health and Wellness Promotion's third “Care for Your Hair and Your Mind” event this week.

The event at the Palomar Health Student Wellness Center brought together mental health awareness and self-care. Nearly two dozen students participated, beginning with a brief mental health check-in with campus counselors. Afterward, participants received professional haircuts provided by barbers from ClipDart.

Organizers shared that the event’s continued success highlights the importance of accessible, free wellness opportunities on campus.

"This event is a meaningful experience for students and offers a comfortable space to prioritize both their mental and physical well-being,” said Anne Cass, MPH, Director of the Center for Health and Wellness Promotion (CHWP). “Students left not only with fresh haircuts, but also with a renewed sense of community, connection and increased knowledge about USD student wellness resources. CHWP is grateful for the Associated Student Government’s financial support for this novel event for the past three years.”

This event is one of several on campus that are part of the University of San Diego's Year of Wellness initiative, which aims to promote holistic wellness and support the mind, body and spirit of our USD community members. Because USD Begins with Us.
