Biochemistry Major Jonathan Martin Awarded 2024 Marion B. Sewer Scholarship
Jonathan Martin, a biochemistry major, at the University of San Diego, has been named one of the recipients of the prestigious 2024 Marion B.Sewer scholarship. This national award celebrates students who excel academically and are interested in biochemistry and molecular biology. Additionally, it aims to foster a more inclusive and diverse biomedical workforce and academic environment.
The Marion B. Sewer scholarship, awarded to 10 students across the United States, provides each recipient with $2,000 for undergraduate tuition and related costs.This scholarship is named in honor of Dr. Marion B. Sewer, a professor of pharmacy at the University of California San Diego who was an advocate for diversity in science and devoted to service within the science community.
Martin’s selection as a scholarship recipient highlights his potential to make significant contributions to the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology. Associate Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry Anthony Bell, PhD, Martin’s research advisor, remarked, "Jonathan is an excellent student that I have enjoyed working with. I believe that Jonathan will use this opportunity as a springboard for continued success at USD.”
