"Water dispersive rare earth nanoparticles – synthesis, spectroscopic properties, and surface modifications"

The rare earth elements, or lanthanides, are incredibly important in daily life.  They are found in the magnets and video screens of many devices we use on a daily basis.  The lanthanide ions can be incorporated into  nano materials, yielding advantages compared to classic quantum dots or other nanoparticles.  This talk will explore the synthesis, spectroscopic properties, and surface modifications for a series of lanthanide containing nanoparticles that can be utilized for the development of various diagnostic and sensing materials.
