The Ahlers Center for International Business at the University of San Diego School of Business honored graduating international business (IB) students on April 30 with a virtual celebration and international business alumni panel.

The event commemorated the outstanding achievements of our graduating IB students offering inspiration and helpful insights from a panel of IB alumni including:

  • Jessica Brinkerhoff '13 supply chain category manager, Jack in the Box
  • Jessica Dey '13, digital marketing manager, Amgen
  • Giulia Dugo '16, international experience manager, Adobe

Alumni panelists shared their respective experiences navigating the interview process, transitioning into the workforce and how they leveraged the global mindset, skills and knowledge they developed in their IB studies towards successful careers.

“Having an IB concentration with study abroad experience makes you a better and more empathetic leader,” said Brinkheroff.

They also acknowledged the challenges facing our students who are graduating during a global health pandemic. In response, Giulia Dugo encouraged them to “be resilient and open to opportunities and put your best self forward.”

The event also included a moderated question and answer session with Dr. Eileen Daspro, clinical professor of international business at USD.

The IB undergraduate degree program at the USD School of Business offers students a plethora of resources and opportunities to distinguish themselves academically and realize their personal and professional growth. Our graduating seniors have acquired second language competency, embarked on one or more study abroad experiences (over 70 percent did a full semester abroad), participated in the International Business Club Mentor Program and represented USD at various business case competitions including the SDSU International Business Case Competition — where they placed 3rd this past year.

Two students in our 2020 graduating class also completed a double degree with John Cabot University in Rome.

"Studying abroad was the most influential experience I had during my time at USD. It gave me a much better understanding of what it takes to be a global businesswoman,” says Elizabeth Longacre, a graduating international business student.

Her classmate, Sarah Humphrey, echoed that sentiment commenting, “I have grown in ways I never knew possible, thanks to all my study abroad experiences.”

The virtual celebration was indeed an uplifting and memorable celebration. The Ahlers Center for International Business and the USD School of Business wish our international business graduates a lifetime of exploration, global friendships and personal and professional fulfillment.

“My time at USD was without a doubt the best four years of my life," says international business senior Dylan Oberhaus. "I met some of my best friends along the way and am blessed we got the opportunity to study abroad in Prague together and travel throughout Europe.”
