Friday, August 16, 2019

This summer, our MBA students put their classroom lessons to the test. With internships all over San Diego at Sempra Energy, Asics, Toshiba, Mekkeller Brewing, local startups, and more, students applied their skills in finance, marketing, operations, analytics, and real estate. Here are some of the amazing takeaways our MBA students got from their internship experiences.

Allie Ziesmer, Internship at HP

USD MBA Student, Allie, Ziesmer

"My internship was exciting and challenging because I was a part of creating a 'Go To Market' plan for a new product launching globally this summer that will target over 3.5 million users."

Anthony Bouvier, Internship at Sempra Energy

USD MBA Student, Anthony Bouvier

"It was exciting to apply my academic knowledge to solve real-world problems. I learned a lot about the energy industry (especially LNG liquefaction projects) and improving my excel modeling skills. You can't beat the view of Petco Park I had from my office either!"

Zac Dobbin, Intern at Port of San Diego

USD MBA Student, Zac Dobbin

"My time at the Port of San Diego was a great learning experience! Over the last two months, I worked on developing some impact investing frameworks for the port's blue economy incubator. They had companies working on everything from growing seaweed to developing a smart marina app! It was eye-opening to see how much area is in the port's jurisdiction as they manage the coastal area from San Diego all the way down to Imperial Beach."

Jill Planeta, Intern at San Diego Gas & Electric

USD MBA Student, Jill Planeta

"I learned a lot, from SDG&E's financial and business planning to their daily troubleshooting processes in San Diego county. It's a company with a great culture and climate."

Alan Pleat, Intern at ResMed

USD MBA Student, Alan Pleat

"It was very interesting to learn about B2B Marketo, Salesforce, and Excel database engineering and analytics within the context of home medical device technology. It was a privilege interning at ResMed, my first experience working at a large, public, multiational corporation."
