Benjamin Murray '11, '14 MSRE

In May, Benjamin (Ben) Murray ’11, ’14 MSRE, was named one of the "Top 40 Under 40" by The Daily Transcript. Ben came to the University of San Diego (USD) on a golf scholarship as an undergraduate. He then graduated from the Master of Science in Real Estate (MSRE) program in 2014. He met the CEO of Brixton Capital, Travis King, at a mentorship event organized through the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate. After a three-month internship at Brixton, Ben was offered a full-time position. Brixton is a private real estate investment firm that owns and operates a portfolio valued in excess of $1 billion of retail, multifamily, office, industrial and land investments across the U.S. and Europe.

"I've been in a lot of different departments hereI started as operations analyst, transitioned to asset management with a portfolio of properties," The Daily Transcript quoted Ben. Following that role, Ben was an acquisitions associate, which included managing four analysts. Ben is currently the director of acquisitions, a role often reserved in the real estate investment industry for very seasoned professionals. In the article, Ben shared that he travels extensively looking for real estate opportunities.

The Daily Transcript article stated that Ben was recently tasked with expanding Brixton's acquisition activities in Texas and the western states and that he was instrumental in sourcing a large shopping center deal near Phoenix as well as a multifamily property in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Brixton Capital was recently included in Commercial Property Executive's list of "Top 50 Owners," which indicates the volume of transactions. In his four years with the company, Ben has participated in more than $800 million worth of acquisitions. The article concludes with Ben stating, "I've got USD and Brixton to thank for my whole careerthey taught me a lot. Now I'm working with three analysts, a great group of colleagues."
