Ian M. Gill, managing partner of Silvergate Development, LLC and principal of Highland Companies, was awarded the first ever “Person of Impact Award” from the University of San Diego School of Business. The award was presented at an Industry Appreciation Event on May 10 on USD’s campus.

“My years of involvement in the real estate program at USD has rewarded me so much more than I have given through the joy of working with the finest students, faculty and staff I have had the pleasure of collaborating with during my long career,” says Gill. “Truth be told, interacting with the many USD alums here in San Diego has motivated me to extend my useful working life.”

Gill is a long-time supporter of the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate—for more than 20 years. He currently serves as chairman of the Center’s Policy Advisory Board. He is also an adjunct professor for the Master of Science in Real Estate program, teaching courses including: Design and Construction Management and Real Estate Feasibility Analysis. He is also a mentor to graduate and undergraduate real estate students, a guest lecturer, and has recruited USD real estate students as interns and has hired several after graduation.

Gill is actively involved in the Center’s mission to recruit, educate and mentor real estate students with the goal of facilitating their career pursuits in a socially responsible manner and with a global perspective. He has supported students in a variety of real estate competitions and has taken an active role in helping students build their futures in real estate. Gill is also actively involved in the interviewing and recruitment process of real estate faculty positions and has provided significant financial support to the USD real estate program.

“Our depth of gratitude to Ian is immeasurable for all that he has done for the real estate students at USD and for our Center,” says Stath Karras, executive director of the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate. “This impact award could not have gone to a more deserving industry leader who helped us build the foundation of an incredible real estate program and stayed active to allow the program to develop to where it is today—his contributions are truly significant.”
