President Harris Walks with USD Employees in Tecolote Canyon

University of San Diego President James Harris likes to meet and spend some time with the many people who comprise the campus community. He frequently walks the trail through Tecolote Canyon, which is adjacent to USD, seeing it as a great opportunity to exercise, be in nature and enjoy the sights and scenery. Last month, in what has become a regular occurrence and to complement a busy schedule, he did both activities at the same time.

Harris Tecolote Canyon Walk Dec. 2016

President Harris did a mid-December early morning walk from USD, through the nearby neighborhood area and then through Tecolote Canyon with a group of USD faculty and staff employees.

The group consisted of Outdoor Adventures (OA) Program Manager Mark Ceder, OA Program Coordinator Kelly Sloan, OA student leader and USD senior Angela Hessenius, Community and Government Relations Senior Director Thomas Cleary, and School of Business’ Bridget Breitenberg (Business Career Services) Mitch Warachka (Kaye and Richard Woltman Professor of Finance), Alyson Ma (Chair and Professor of Economics), Karolina Rzadkowolska (Strategic Initiatives Manager), Amit Kakkad (Operations Management Professor, Director of Center for Peace and Commerce), Jane Jollineau (Distinguished Professor of Accounting), Mark Judd (Clinical Professor of Accounting) and Robert Bowen (Distinguished Professor of Accounting).

The walk was both fun and informative. Not only was there lively conversation as the group bonded, but they had an opportunity to learn more about Tecolote Canyon. They visited and toured the Tecolote Nature Center with longtime Tecolote resident and preservationist M. Eloise Battle and Matt Sanford, a senior ranger with San Diego Parks and Recreation, as guides.
