Faculty/Staff Morning Retreat

The Morning Retreat is a special opportunity for USD faculty and staff to share a morning of reflection, silent prayer and group sharing.

Take Nothing for the Journey?  Packing for the Unknown

How do we prepare for what’s ahead, when we have no idea what the future will hold?  During the ongoing coronavirus crisis, talking about next month, next week, or even tomorrow may feel like having to pack for a trip without knowing the destination.  This anxiety is particularly keen in the world of higher education.

What spiritual resources can help us stay both grounded and flexible in a season of profound uncertainty?  In this one-hour retreat, we will use “packing” as a metaphor, drawing on wisdom from Scripture as well as contemporary authors Annie Dillard, Barbara Kingsolver, Cheryl Strayed, and more.  We will ponder what commitments, attitudes, and practices we want to carry with us—and what we might need to leave behind—so that we may travel lightly, responsive to God’s call.

Facilitator

Christine Eberle is a Philadelphia-based retreat facilitator, public speaker, and author of Finding God in Ordinary Time: Daily Meditations.  A campus minister in higher education for 26 years, Christine’s passion is connecting Scripture, spirituality, and everyday life.
